Before they acquire you.Īnd in its own way, it's absolutely glorious. In Railroad Tycoon style, everything else is a means to an end, and that end is the acquisition of the competing companies though the purchase of a controlling share of their stock. And the economy is what the game is all about. All you have control of is your installations (resource extractors, resource manufacturing and special buildings such as research centre, starport.), 'black market' operations for temporary disruption of the opposition or protection from them, and the economy. There are freighters but they ship the resources by themselves.

No tanks, no soldiers, no scouts, no farmers. The twist though, is that it's an RTS without any units. In addition to the cosmetic side (Io is gorgeous), each one comes with its own twist in terms of resources and landscape. The base game is set on Mars, and expansions add Ceres and Io as alternative locations. The premise of OTC is the exploitation of offworld natural resources, in the form of a real time strategy game. Fast forward a few days and I have now forked out an additional €16 for the bundle with the rest of the DLCs. Right now though, it's sold for much cheaper in the Steam sales, at around €8 for the base game or about €15 for the base game and its Jupiter's Forge expansion, so after watching a couple more let's play videos, I thought I'd go for it, and picked the game+expansion package. So, I've had my eye on Offworld Trading Company since even before it went into Early Access, but a combination of lukewarm reviews and pretty high release price ended up with me sitting it out.
